Common Name: Sacapellote
General: This is a tall perennial herb with large heart-shaped leaves. Leaves and stems are covered with sticky resin. Purple, bristly flowers occur in large heads.
CSUCI: Observed commonly in two sites. One is a partially shaded on a north-facing slope, the other an open, exposed area, suggesting this species has wide habitat tolerances. Acourtia plants are visible soon after onset of winter rains; flowering occurs in early June (2004).
Medicine and Uses: This plant is a powerful laxative for the digestive system.
