Coreopsis gigantea
Common Names: Giant Coreopsis, Sea Dahlia
Giant coreopsis is a common Channel Islands plant and found along the mainland coast opposite the islands. With its shaggy greenery atop oddly angled trucks, it has the appearance of a plant conjured from the imagination of Dr. Seuss. Around CSUCI this plant is abundant, particularly on north facing slopes of rocky bluffs and hills. The CSUCI colony represents an unusual inland occurrence of this plant. The bright yellow flowers begin appearing in early February, and are largely gone by the end of March.
