General: The light green fronds of this fern project from along the length of a rhizoid; they do not emerge in a single bunch.
CSUCI: This is the most common CSUCI fern. Is occurs in shady, moist habitats (such as north-facing slopes). It is particularly common along the edges of large rocks or growing from crevices in rocks.
Small fiddle heads emerge from underground rhizoids shortly after the first winter rains (October/November). Lush growth evident by January. By mid to late May, the foliage is largely dead and brown. Sporulation has not been observed every year, and may occur only in years of heavy rainfall.
